For Oskar and Zofia Hansen, architecture was meant to serve as a backdrop for life, and the market on Wileńska Street is one of the clearest realisations of this idea. The work reveals what is present yet invisible and allows us to experience values that we have forgotten are still part of this place.
Cezary Hunkiewicz – curator, author and publisher. Co-creator of Warsaw’s BD Gallery, where he develops a programme focused on visual practices shaped outside the mainstream of contemporary art. Co-founder of Brain Damage Gallery (2012–2023), the first gallery in Poland to introduce grassroots artistic practices emerging from urban space into the institutional art circuit. His work explores the moment when something created outside the system becomes part of it, and the tension generated by this process.
He has curated and co-curated several dozen exhibitions and projects, including Hallenkunst in Chemnitz (European Capital of Culture 2025) and public-space projects developed as part of Poland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. He is the author of, among other publications, Art in Transit and Beyond (2026). He develops international curatorial and publishing projects in Europe and the United States.
